In other news, this school year has been all shades of interesting...really interesting...like headache inducing interesting.

What were your favorite books as a child, and why?

My favorite books as a child were the Hardy Boys. I absolutely love mysteries and family relationships. I loved the dynamic between Frank and Joe and that they could go anywhere, most times without an adult! :D Mostly, I loved the mysteries the boys always solved and how they worked with their father and their friends. I still love those books!

So yesterday, I was watching the A-Team with my cousin (the movie, not the series - though I did get that for Christmas *grin*). I was telling the cuz that I had always wanted B.A.'s van when I was little and I still do. I have lots of those 80's vehicles that I still want: Rick Simon's Power Wagon, the General Lee, K.I.T.T - but only if he's driving, and B.A.'s van.

What about you? Are there any cars from your youth that you still covet?

What is the best book you've read this year, and why?

"Hard Magic" by Laura Anne Gilman. It was a perfect mix of magic, humor, and action. This story had an amazing flow to it. It was hard to put down once I got started with it. The second book in the series is due out in February...and I can't wait.

Spinning off a minor character from the Retrievers books (Staying Dead, etc.), Gilman launches an entertaining new series set in her Cosa Nostradamus world of magic-using Talented humans. Following up on a mysterious job lead, college grad Bonita Torres joins the Private Unaffiliated Paranormal Investigations (PUPI), a freelance CSI-style unit for Talent-related crimes. The puppies refine and practice spells until they get their first big case: an apparent double suicide. As they follow the evidence, trail and interrogate suspects, and defend themselves against attacks, the investigators develop comfortable and engaging team dynamics and create the field of forensic magic. Gilman's deft plotting and first-class characters complement her agile blend of science and spell craft, and readers will love the Mythbusters-style fun of smart, sassy people solving mysteries through experimentation, failure, and blowing stuff up.
